Gumbo Dreams

(S. Goldberger / D. S. Karr / E. Mahar)

There was a Delta moon over Crescent City at the mouth of the Mississippi.
It was shining down on Dixieland from Canal St. to the Quarter.
My brain was filled with gumbo dreams of a Streetcar Named Desire -
There was Marlon Brando in a zydeco band, his fiddle was on fire.
Oh New Orleans, you're in my dreams, Sweet New Orleans

The night was hot and filled with city smells of deep fry, garlic and coffee.
Blanche Dubois was the carnival queen, she was sipping on mint juleps.
Stella was cooking up a BBQ In a hidden courtyard garden.
There was Dixie Beer, spicy creole shrimp and a jambalaya stew.
Oh New Orleans, you're in my dreams, Sweet New Orleans

It's been so many years since I walked your streets, but I never will forget you.
I got a Cajun soul that's out of control, and I'm dreaming of the Bayou.
I gotta get back to the great "Big Easy", the heart of Louisiana.
Make love on the banks of the Pontchartrain and turn my life around.
Oh New Orleans, you're in my dreams, Sweet New Orleans
