Steve's Bands & Biography

THE EARLY TO MID 90's

In the early 90's while still working about once or twice a month with Blazin' Saddles, Steve got a call from Saddles drummer Dave Norris that another band he worked with was looking for a bass player. It turned out to be the call he was waiting for as he had always admired Gayle Ackroyd's style of blues, country and R&B and he knew he would fit in right away. At the time he first joined up with the band they were just completing her first album and Steve was invited to sing on one of the tunes as they were putting on the finishing touches. He went on to work with Gayle for several years thereafter.

At the same time as he was working with the Saddles and Gayle, old musical buddy Conrad Kipping landed a steady summer gig for every Satuarday and Sunday afternoon. At a family theme park just north of Toronto called Pleasure Valley a very 'hot'band was assembled with the likes of Conrad on fiddle, mandolin and assorted guitars, Steve on guitar, Dennis Keldie on keyboards and accordian, Dave Thompson on upright bass, Robbie Duffus on drums and a weekly guest artist. There was no set routine and a huge variety of music was experimented with. Over the three summers that they did the gig some fabulous musicians passed through the band and a good casual time was had by all.
