Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, the shed studio is multiple award-winnig recording artist, producer & songwriter, Steve Goldberger's personal facility.

Production, Mixing and Session Work

While The Shed is not a "commercial" studio looking for clients, I am always open to hearing about new music and new artists that want to produce something special. Feel free to reach out here to discuss details of your project, or ask questions about the process.

Production
With many produced albums, including a slew of Niagara Music Award nominated and winning recordings, I think I've earned a reputation for roots music productions. I built my studio almost 25 years ago and have been carefully curating my collection of recording equipment.

Remote Sessions
I can also play on your tracks remotely!
I've played on many, many recordings and I can add tracks to projects from anywhere in the world, working regularly for many artists and producers. I have a great setup ready to record acoustic or electric instruments. My specialties include bass, vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, and more. I also have access to a wide network of seasoned studio players I can reach out to. I can record them in house or send tracks to various instrumentalists including pedal steel, guitarists, keyboards, horns, etc..

Mixing & Recording
Over the last 25 years I've tried to hone my craft through experience and dedication to the art. I've worked with many artists starting at various stages in their recording process to record and/or mix their music and bring their project to completion..

I've worked worked on many great projects, including my solo and band albums and have produced, recorded, or just mixed songs or albums for The Shoeshine Boys, Maja Bannerman, Rusty McCarthy, Kim Van Stygren, Scott Chamberlain, Jupiter Jazz, Martin Springett, James Brown, Diesel Dog, Matinee Slim & the Ultralight Orchestra, Vintage Soul, Steve Grisbrook, Vinyard Jazz Trio, Arabesque String Trio, Karen Smith, Gary Small & Graham Lear, Jeff Brown, Gravely James, Marty Hopkins, Sea of Gold and Burgundy, Rob Repovs, Holmes Hooke, Penner MacKay, Blues Etc., Root Magic, Don Sexsmith, Brandon Agnew, Gail Hawkins, among others.

The recording and mix setup is centered around a fully automated API 2448 console. The collection of new and vintage outboard gear includes compressors, eqs and effects by Neve, Retro Instruments, UA-Teletronics, Urei, Airfield Audio, Chandler, Acme, Avalon, AEA, SPL, Orban, Lexicon, Spectra 1964 and more. Feel free to reach out here to discuss details of your project, or ask questions about the process.

Originally constructed in 2000, the shed was destroyed by fire in 2002. Reopening in 2003 with an expanded space and a new vintage Sony MX3036 console it has served Steve and his many varied productions until the pandemic hit us all in 2020. It seemed like a good time to do some upgrades. With the valued assistance of wonderkind engineer, designer, tech and builder Frank Ditillio, a brand new custom made API 2448 console was installed and the studio has been completely rewired and partially redesigned. With new room treatments installed, new headphone system, redundant and unused gear removed, the studio is ready for another 20 years of creativity.
